Anyone for Tennis? The Best Facilities Available Near Morecambe

Read Carefully

If watching Wimbledon has got you inspired, maybe now is the time to pick up some durable felt tennis balls and dust off your racket and sweatbands.

The summer months, and into the autumn, are a great time for tennis fans, and once the covers have been put on the grass courts of SW19 it won’t be long until the sport’s finest head off to Flushing Meadows for the US Open in August and September.

According to the US Open 2021 outright tennis betting odds, Novak Djokovic is the red-hot favourite to add yet another Grand Slam title to his collection, although the likes of Rafael Nadal, Dominic Thiem, and Daniil Medvedev might have something to say about that.

Maybe you fancy yourself as a bit of a Roger Federer or a Johanna Konta, or perhaps you experience the mood swings of John McEnroe in his prime. Either way, you’ll be delighted to hear that there’s plenty of tennis facilities available near Morecambe, so why don’t you book yourself a court and see if you can serve an ace or two?

Lancaster Tennis Club

One of the few purpose-built tennis facilities near Morecambe is Lancaster Tennis Club.

You’ll need to become a member before you can book a slot, but once you have your membership you can take advantage of a number of different courts. Affiliated with the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA), the club runs a number of different teams for men and women in competitive leagues. There’s also inclusive support for wheelchair tennis, too.

If you have an aspiring tennis ace in the family, the team at Lancaster Tennis Club offers coaching sessions. On a competitive basis, with tournaments and events held throughout the year, there’s every possibility that an up-and-coming player with lots of discipline could wind up being the next generation’s Andy Murray or Serena Williams.

Bowerham Lawn Tennis Club

With a unique carpet surface and floodlights in operation, Bowerham Lawn Tennis Club is an ideal spot, regardless of the weather.

Players of all abilities are welcome to book one of the four courts available and take part in the fun social sessions, and should you need refreshments after a gruelling three-set match, you’ll find the licensed bar to be stocked accordingly.

There are changing rooms on the site and access for wheelchairs too, ensuring that all clientele feel welcome at Bowerham Lawn.

LMC Sports & Fitness

Located at Lancaster & Morecambe College, the LMC Sports & Fitness centre offers users a wide range of facilities in which they can work up a sweat. Of course, tennis is high up on the menu, with several courts available as well as racket hire.

In addition, you can use the gym facilities, which are open in the evenings and at weekends, with changing rooms and showers available on site. Sports fans can also get their mates together for some five-a-side football or badminton, and for the flexible, there’s even trampolining.

If you have the urge to release your inner tennis icon this summer, you’re in safe hands in Morecambe.
