Hi Betty,
The Bulletin Board isn't really the place to "Chat"
There is the live chat forum which, although sadly little used, would be a better place to chat "live". Bearing in mind the time differences between here and Venice, California, perhaps you would like to post times when you would like to chat in the forum, I for one would make every effort to be on line at the same time.... Hello Betty,
Of course the Bulletin Board can be used for chatting. I have noticed that British folk seem to be dragging their heels when it comes to using bulletin boards. I have lots of fun chatting away on many bulletin boards on the net. I check in here usually twice a day, and the benefit of bulletin boards is that we can all leave messages regardless of when we are on the net. Look forward to speaking to you again soon, Best wishes, Elaine.

Elaine, you must be an extremely slow talker if you "chat" on the bulletin boards.
Bulletin boards are for posting messages which other people read and either respond to or not. This can take several days or weeks to read a response, and if that is your idea of chatting, then it is far removed from my interpretation. I notice you don't encourage the forum chat for real conversation....maybe you don't have much to say or find stringing a sentence together difficult.

Hello Dave,
I will let you off for those remarks, assuming that as it's Friday, you have just come to the end of a busy week, and haven't yet had time to relax with a dram or two! I agree with you that one would have a long wait to chat with anyone on this board, as most members seem very backward in coming forward just lately. However, I belong to some fantastic message boards, with members from all over the world, and believe me, the chats never stop! One particular board, usually has at least 50 messages left each day, not bad going when one takes into account that the number of regular posters are much less than the total members of Morecambe World. I have to constantly press "refresh" to keep up with some of them. Maybe it will hapen here one day, I am forever optomistic!(sp!)
Best wishes, Elaine.

Can anyone tell me how to stop the screen flashing on the chat page? It is so off putting and there seems to be quite a delay in sending and how can I use the thing without pulling down that bar on the right?

I don't understand this bit

Hello everyone,
I have just been talking to myself in the Chat Room, and there seems to be no problems, so I can assume that Peter has fixed things. If any of you continue to experience problems using the Live Chat, then please e-mail Peter and let him know what you are experiencing.
BTW, contrary to rumours, I have nothing against the live Chat Forum, far from it, I hope it takes off soon. To any of you who may be wondering why I haven't offered to "meet up" with you there, it's only because I am usually on-line very late at night. I am disabled, and as my PC is upstairs, I tend not to climb the wooden mountain unless I have to, hence my being on-line just prior to my (very late) bedtime.
Best wishes, Elaine. PS. I thik I managed to string those sentences along quite well, don't you agree?

Hello Elaine,
Thanks for being understanding!
Yes, it was the end of a VERY busy week and I was being rather aggressive....
So, let's make up and be friendly!!
Take Care,

Hi

Well said Elaine & Dave.

This is not the place to have petty skirmishes.

I still never find anyone in the chat, though !

The only time I did, it was very slow.

The real Peter told me how to sort out the flashing problem and thanks for that ............ on a Sunday !

Just for interest.......... it is not only UK that has heavy rainfall ! We had 15 inches 5equivalent to 6 months rain) in 5 hours resulting in serious flooding 3 kms from here.

Well, I wasn't aware that we HAD fallen out! Apology accepted, and look forward to "chatting" to you again soon on here.
Best wishes, Elaine.

Options on Chat which may help some of the issues!

The flashing on your screen is the refresh rate when it checks the server for new messages. You can adjust this by clicking on 'Options' at the bottom of the screen, which brings up a new window, set the 'Update Frequency (secs)' to a slower speed, try 10, this means your screen will only refresh once every 10 seconds.

You can also choose where you want your messages to be read, newest at the top or at the bottom.

If there are two people or more on the chat, and you can only see the messages which you have written, then the chances are the other people are having 'private' chat, i.e. instead of posting to all users, they are just posting to individuals so no-one else can read them!

I think this is may be what was happening but obviously, I wasn't there and it could have been something else!

Try the new settings and if you have any more problems please let me know and I'll get online the same time as you and try and find out exactly what's going on.

Cheers

Peter, as the administrator and one who keeps banging on about using the chat room, why not lead by example and tell us when YOU are going to be in the room. I'm sure many of us regulars would appreciate the chance to talk to the man himself!!
