Hi Peter - it's unlikely that this will happen, but a slim chance. I just contacted the previous site owner to see if he has a back up of how the forum used to be. Will let you know what he says.

I think the forum on the old site was closed a long time ago due to some people trying to spoil things. Of course since then forum software has improved and hopefully if this forum gets busy we'll have daily moderators.

This website still has a long way to go but I think that the design is simpler and tidier. We just need to add some content to a few of the tabs at the top.

Am keen to hear what you think of the changes so far. Let me know how busy the old forum was - I never got a chance to see it.

I saw that you have a facebook group - I had a quick look and it's a great idea although your group is specific to your yer. Please let them know about this site and if you ever want to write any stories for the blog we can set up an account so you can add your news/stories.

Hi Peter - it's unlikely that this will happen, but a slim chance.

That is a pity, because there was a lot of useful information posted over the years.

At its height, the forum was very active with several postings each day. Sadly, the other Peter moved away, he didn't have as much time to monitor it, and the spammers took over. BTW, forums are still plagued by spammers who get more sophisticated all the time. Some recent discussion on my other site : http://the-languedoc-page.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=2778 .

I've tried to find it here : http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.morecambe.co.uk , but can't find the forum stuff. Almost certainly the db itself was on a different url.

It was probably 60+% to do with Morecambe past - you can see that from what is left of the visitors book at http://www.morecambe.co.uk/visitorsbook.html . Current Morecambe stuff was mainly here :  http://groups.msn.com/ilovemorecambe .
There is another Morecambe forum here : http://morecambe-bayweb.proboards104.com

As for the Facebook group, it was an experiment but it didn't work for me. However, very few of the Morecambe Grammar pupils will be under 60 these days and I guess we are just too old to be PC literate. Maybe in retirement we will become silver surfers !

Good luck !

Peter

Thanks for those links Peter,

I'm contacting them to see if we can help promote each other. Would be great if this forum could become bigger and useful.
I run a few forums and they are a lot bigger. We even have moderators to clean up the posts.

I guess that's what the old site needed. It's a shame if those posts have been lost forever!

Peter, the slim chance kind of came through - archive.org had parts of the forum saved, so I cut and paste what must be a couple of hundred posts.

Take a look here: http://www.morecambe.co.uk/forum/index.php?board=12.0

Hi Morecambe, I'm the administrator of the little forum known as Morecambe Bayweb. It is fairly new and I started it up mainly because I couldn't find an existing one and although we don't currently live in Morecambe we love the area and wanted to chat to locals about current events etc. We visit the area as often as possible and would love to be able to move up there someday.

I'm a member of several online forums and help to moderate and administrate on a couple. Some of them are very quiet others are a flurry of daily activity. Ours is quite a bit different to this one. Pop over and visit us if you like. Smiley You'd be very welcome.

Hi Willow,

Thanks for joining and saying hello. I'll definitely take a look at your site. Will save it until the morning - exhausted after returning from a trip.

Hopefully we can contribute to each others sites!

Take care
