Morecombe Memories Project

My friend Julia and I are training to be a filmmakers at Manchester University and are very interested in doing a short film on memories of Morecambe. If any of you feel like helping us by talking for a bit about your memories of Morecambe, then we would be very grateful. We would not take up much of your time and the film would only be seen by a few fellow students and tutors at the University. I think that it could be quite good fun as we will be overlaying interviews with some footage of Morecambe from the North West Film Archive.

If not, any advice on where we could look for residents with interesting views, stories or experiences of the changing aspects of the city, would be greatly appreciated.

Please email on:

gandhivsbrucelee@yahoo.com
or call
on 0161 434 3817

Many Thanks

Dominic Elliot

I am told those of us frantically typing records of minor events from a bygone era are not seeking their lost youth. You do seem to have found a location where several of us go to considerable effort to provide a rose colored description of what we think happened, all those years ago. I note Jim Brock recently reminiscing about the troughs on the main line just north of Hest Bank station, and the water spraying around the tender. Other than those of us who were there one wonders how many others will have any idea what a trough or tender is.
In my case the era is 1956, when my family moved to Torrisholme until 1962 when we moved to Cheshire, south of Manchester, when I was sixteen and a half, (half years were important then). .
You need to specify the time period you want to use. Unless you have a large budget you will not do much talking as a number are on the far side of the Atlantic. A more specific theme for your movie will be useful to ensure any respondents stay focused on the topic and not drive you to distraction.
In our day we would have professed being moviemakers to lure young ladies astray. Posts: 4 | From: Vancouver Canada | Registered: Dec 2001  |  IP: Logged
